Blue8791 TatakAsul Scholarship Launched

On 16 May 2017, Blue8791 Inc., a group comprised of Ateneo de Manila University alumni of class GS 1987 and HS 1991, launched the endowment, Blue8791 TatakAsul Scholarship which will grant financial assistance to deserving students from public high schools.  Ateneo de Manila University President Fr. Jose Ramon T. Villarin, S.J., Vice President for Finance and Treasurer Mr. Jose F. Santos, and Blue 8791 Inc.’s Paul Steven Famador (Spiritual and Formation Head) and Ricardo Jose Nicolas III (President) led the signing of a memorandum of agreement.

The aid covers tuition and fees scholarship for one student at the Ateneo de Manila Senior High School (Grades 11 and 12).

“We want to contribute to the multitude of public school students who will enter senior high school,” said Ricky Nicolas, President, Blue8791 Inc.

Aside from the scholarship fund, the group also turned over donations for the Tulong Dunong emergency fund and the Blue Plate for Better Learning feeding program.

A program of the Ateneo de Manila High School begun by Fr. James O’Brien, S.J. in 1976, Tulong Dunong helps public elementary school students become scholars in the Ateneo de Manila High School, Miriam College, and St. Scholastica’s College Academy in Marikina.  Blue Plate, on the other hand, is a daily in-school feeding program spearheaded by the Ateneo Center for Educational Development or ACED. Blue Plate provides daily lunch meals to some 4,000 undernourished public school students.
