The Jaime V. Ongpin IBG Fund

The Jaime V. Ongpin Institute for Business and Government Fund was established in 1988 by friends and associates of Mr. Jaime V. Ongpin to provide funding for the Jaime V. Ongpin Institute for Business and Government [JVO IBG] at the Ateneo de Manila University. The aim of the Institute was to create an environment by which men and women of goodwill, dedication, and competence, can find encouragement and support in their service of the nation. Donations from friends, associates, and contributions from the Philippines and other parts of the world, funded the Institute.

In 1989, the Jaime V Ongpin Foundation Washington, DC Chapter held a fundraising to support the activities of the JVO IBG. Washington-based alumnus Atty Ramon P Paterno, GS58/HS62/AB History and Government 1966, and his wife Isabelita Paterno recently visited the Ateneo de Manila University to hand over the proceeds then. Administrators of the University led by Father President Jose Ramon T Villarin SJ received Atty and Mrs Paterno at the Boardroom on February 8 2013. Present at the handover was Mrs Maria Isabel G Ongpin. The proceeds will join the JVO Institute for Business and Government Fund.
In 1996, the JVO IBG Fund was transferred by the JVO IBG to the Ateneo Scholarship Foundation, Inc. for the activities of the Ateneo School of Government. The use of the funds were guided by a Memorandum of Agreement signed between the JVO IBG Board represented by Atty. Bienvenido A. Tan Jr. and the Ateneo de Manila University represented by Fr. Bienvenido F. Nebres, S.J., President.

Today, the JVO IBG Fund supports the Ateneo School of Government’s Jaime V. Ongpin Executive Education Program for capacity building for local governments, the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility (est. 1989) Jaime V. Ongpin Awards for Excellence in Journalism to promote “best practice” in investigative journalism and explanatory reporting, and the Jaime V. Ongpin Annual Memorial Lecture on Public Service in Business and Government (est 2001).
